Chapter 17

Truth Hurts

Ant called Jasmine before she left work and told her to meet him at the city park. He had something special planned for her.

She was so excited and wondered what was up with him. She

never had anyone be so sweet to her before. She was really

falling for him.

Ant’s heart skipped a beat when he saw Jasmine pull into the

park’s parking lot. He watched her walk towards his direction.

He liked the way her hips swayed in sync with the rhythms of

the birds chirping and the children’s laughter in the park. It’s like she was in tune with nature and marched to the melody of her

own music. He continued to look her over from head to toe. Her

smile was like sunbeams. She brought warmth and radiance

into every place she entered. Her eyes told a story. When he

gazed into them, he felt like he had journeyed to the places she had been, walked the path she had walked. He had seen how

they illuminated when she thought something was funny or how

her eyes glowered when she was upset. Now he wondered how

they will look when he made love to her. Will her eyes smolder?

Will they sizzle? Ant found himself aroused and asked himself out loud,

“What are you doing, man, she is your friend. Jasmine Russell

is my friend,” he said over and over when Jasmine walked

up.

“Ant Woods, you are my friend, too. What are you talking

about?” Jasmine asked laughing.

“Nothing, nothing,” he answered, flustered that he had been

caught like a boy fresh on puberty.

“So, Ant, are you going to give me a hug or what? Why are

you acting so stank?” she asked.

Ant leaned in to give her kiss, making sure that he didn’t linger too long. He sniffed. She smelled nice, she smelled like fresh

cut peaches. When he pulled back, Jasmine noticed him staring

at her like she was a homemade peach pie. She noticed

that he was salivating and started to feel uncomfortable, as she took a step back away from him.

“Ant, what do you have for us to eat, you know a sister is hungry,”

she said trying to get some attention off of her.

“Well, Ms. Russell, I have chicken salad with tomato-basil

crackers, fresh fruit salad with apples, pineapples, strawberries, kiwi, and oranges, and two bottles of the best bottle water

the dollar store offered. What do you think about that? he answered her.

“It sounds delicious!” she responded.

“Have a seat, Jasmine, while I fix your plate,” he ordered.

Jasmine sat down on the blue and green plaid blanket he

had spread out; grateful that she had got a fresh pedicure after her lunch date with Shante. She took off her shoes and placed

them on the side of her, out of her way. She looked at Ant as he prepared her plate. He took such great care to make sure everything was neat and presentable. His hands were gentle, she

wondered if his hands would be gentle when he touched her to

make love. Shaking her head of the image she seen of her and

Ant, Jasmine mumbled a prayer up to God.
